Designed for Minnesota living.

Successful landscape design Minnesota homeowners can rely on starts with a deep understanding of local conditions. From freeze to thaw cycles and heavy snow loads to hot summers and clay soils, Minnesota landscapes demand thoughtful planning. Our experienced landscape designers and landscape architecture team create outdoor environments that work with nature instead of against it, resulting in landscapes that look great and stay manageable season after season.

Whether you’re starting afresh or you’re updating an existing yard, Otten Bros delivers customized solutions that reduce maintenance without sacrificing on your style.

Native plants for effortless beauty.

One of the foundations of low maintenance landscaping is smart plant selection. We prioritise native and climate adapted plants that thrive naturally in Minnesota. These plants require less water, fewer chemical inputs, and minimal pruning once established.

Native perennials, ornamental grasses and shrubs provide long lasting colour, texture and structure throughout the year. They’re also more resistant to pests and disease, meaning less work for you. By incorporating native plantings, our landscape design approach supports local ecosystems while helping out homeowners to cut down on watering and replacement costs.

Smart hardscaping that reduces upkeep.

Hardscaping plays a major role in creating an easy care yard. Our landscape designer team integrates durable materials like paver walkways, patios, and retaining walls to define spaces and reduce lawn areas that require constant mowing.

Paver systems are especially popular for low maintenance landscapes. They’re designed to handle Minnesota’s freeze thaw cycles, resist cracking, and provide clean lines that elevate curb appeal. Strategic use of decorative stone and mulching further minimizes weed growth and soil erosion while keeping beds looking polished. Mulch not only improves soil health but also helps retain moisture, reducing the need for frequent watering during dry spells.

Sustainable drainage solutions.

Water management is a critical component of successful landscape design Minnesota homeowners can depend on. Poor drainage leads to soggy lawns, foundation issues and plant failure. Otten Bros incorporates sustainable drainage strategies such as rain gardens, permeable pavers and grading solutions that direct water where it belongs.

These features help manage run off, prevent pooling and protect your property while reducing long term maintenance and improving overall landscape health. Thoughtful drainage design also ensures that your yard looks good after heavy rains and spring snow melt.

Less work, more enjoyment.

Low maintenance landscaping is all about freeing up your time. Our designs focus on the following:

• Reduced watering through native plants and efficient layouts.
• Less mowing by replacing turf with planting beds and hardscaping.
• Lower seasonal upkeep with durable materials and simplified layouts.
• Year round visual interest using Evergreen’s structure and texture.

The result is an outdoor space that stays attractive with minimal effort, allowing you to enjoy your yard instead of constantly maintaining it.
