Hello humans! I am a big fan of napping and rolling around on lush, green grass. I’ve been hearing my humans talk about sod lately and all the calls we get requesting it. As the weather heats up, so does sod. Sod is a perishable item and because of this, we will have fresh shipments of sod on Fridays each week (weather permitting) for right now. Sod does sell quickly so we recommend that you pre-order your sod today for pick-up or delivery on Fridays or Saturdays.

Otten Bros. sod is a Kentucky Bluegrass and grown locally in Minnesota. Each roll is 6 feet long by 2 feet wide which equals 12 square feet or 1.25 square yards. Our sod sells for $6.99 a roll or $6.50 a roll for 50+ rolls.

Call us at 952-473-5425 to pre-order and pre-pay for your sod.

Sod vs. Seeding

Which is better for you and your lawn needs?

Sod:

  • Immediate visual impact, they look great right away – instant grass.
  • Usability – low traffic use immediately; normal to high traffic within 2-3 weeks.
  • Stops washouts.
  • Weed control.
  • Not a great performer in heavily shaded areas.
  • Sod can be laid longer through the season.
  • More expensive.
  • Sod is the last to green up in the spring and the first to go dormant in the winter. Lawns that were established by seed are the opposite.

Seeding:

  • A better and healthier end result, it establishes better.
  • A more diverse seed mix and can tolerate hot, dry summer conditions.
  • Can be custom blended to handle the specific conditions of your area.
  • More varieties of grass available.
  • Significant cost savings with seed.
  • Root development will also be better over time with seed.
  • Seeded lawns have to compete with weeds.

If you think that seeding is a better option for you, we carry a variety of grass seed in bulk and in pre-packaged 5-pound bags. You may find me napping in one of the bulk seed bins. Who knew grass seed could be such a comfy bed?!

Have a paw-some week everyone and when you’re here, don’t forget to give me pets!
